Designing a modern
living area.

The homeowner's extensive plant collection served as our ultimate inspiration, prompting us to pull the outdoors inside. We leaned into an earthy palette and rich, tactile textures, pairing warm wood slat paneling with crisp white minimalist cabinetry. Artisanal elements, like the oversized macrame wall hanging, soften the room's clean architectural lines, while woven cane detailing and Mid-Century Modern-inspired dining chairs bring a timeless, grounded sophistication to the space.

OBJECTIVE

To craft a versatile, cohesive living area for a young family, perfectly balancing casual TV viewing, dining, working, and entertaining within a single open-concept footprint.

Approach:

Space Layout: The challenge waws harmonizing four distinct use areas within one open space. Beginning with a blank slate, we designed a custom focal wall to anchor the living zone, using the sofa's placement as a soft architectural divide between the main gathering areas."

Lighting Design: Great design requires great illumination, and this space initially lacked the necessary ambient light. We introduced two chandeliers to visually anchor the main gathering zones, while integrating subtle, moody lighting into the shelving to highlight the artwork and create a warm evening ambiance.

Accent Wall: The room's striking focal point features a custom fluted wood accent wall that draws the eye upward, emphasizing the vaulted ceilings. Flanking the television, light wood built-ins with integrated warm lighting highlight curated decor and vibrant trailing plants, adding depth and ambiance.
