LIGHT AND AIRY: JAPANDI KITCHEN
Reimagining a cozy home with open warmth.
We reimagined this cozy home by relocating the kitchen and dining room to create a more connected, yet thoughtfully zoned layout. To honor the owners’ preference for avoiding a fully open concept, the kitchen was tucked just around the corner from the living room, offering both flow and privacy. The new dining area now opens onto the lush backyard and patio, inviting in natural light and garden views. With warm white oak tones, wood slat accents, sleek cabinetry, and curated art moments, the home strikes a harmonious balance between modern design and inviting comfort.
OBJECTIVE
Our design concept revolved around blending a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic with the warmth and natural elements of Japanese design. Clean lines and functional simplicity meet rich textures like light wood grains, braided jute, wood slat details, and matte finishes.
Approach:
Space layout: We infused this previously segmented, outdated home with natural light and a sense of ease. We created a layout that feels both connected and intentionally zoned by reconfiguring the kitchen, dining room, office nook, and kids' bedroom and opening up a key wall.
Furniture and Decor Procurement: We selected contemporary furniture that complements the kitchen cabinetry in tone and style, offering cohesion without overpowering the space. Each piece is durable, easy to maintain, and thoughtfully chosen to withstand the rhythms of a busy, active family for years to come.
Lighting Design: To create a warm and inviting atmosphere, we incorporated a mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting. Dimmable recessed lighting, modern statement pendants, and cabinet lighting highlighted key areas and added to the overall ambiance.
Installation and Styling: Our team coordinated the installation of all elements, ensuring every detail was meticulously executed. We added final touches with carefully selected decor items, including art pieces, plants, and decorative accessories, to infuse personality into the space.
